Fanling members Donald Nimmo and Tim Orgill handled the cool and breezy conditions at Discovery Bay Golf Club better than anyone else as they romped to a three-point win at the VPAR Pairs Championship in mid-December.
The duo, who were out in the first group of the day, combined superbly to sign off with a 38-point haul – the equivalent of two-under-par – in the gross division to ease to victory. Nimmo and Orgill's win meant they ended the run of Tang Kei-hin and Chiu Choi-lung, who had claimed the 2009 and 2010 editions of the ever-popular event. Tang and Choi could only finish in a tie for ninth spot, seven shots off the pace.
Daniel Wan and Jeffrey Wang, with 35 points, claimed second place on count back from John O'Doherty and Christopher Whiting, who themselves edged out Raaj Shah and Simon Yoo by the narrowest of margins for third.
For the first time, VPAR, the world's most advanced live scoring platform, were sponsoring the event and competitors were able to input their scores and view the tournament leader board in real time via a lightweight mobile device. The scores were also updated and available online, allowing friends and family to keep track of the action.
VPAR, which was launched in Hong Kong in March 2011, has already proved a hit with tournament organisers in the region, with the system being used at a number of corporate golf days in Hong Kong and further afield.
In the nett division, Miquel Aexel and Paul Kessler teamed up to win the category on countback from Dominic Chan and Simon Chow with 46 points.
Iceland-based JS Watch Co., makers of luxury stylish timepieces, debuted as associate sponsors of the long-running event. For more information please click here: JS Watch
