When did you start playing?
I started when I was 10. My dad and I would play at St Enodoc, a lovely seaside links in Cornwall in southern England, on our summer holidays. There are two courses at the club – the well known Church Course and the much shorter Hollywell; it was the latter where we spent most of our time. It must have made quite an impression as I'm now a member there.
How often do you play?
What with work and family duties I probably average only one round every month.
What's been your best ever round?
My lowest score to par was an 81 I had on the Palmer Course at Chung Shan Hot Spring, the first course in modern China, across the border in Guangdong. My most memorable round, however, was the one I had at Royal Wimbledon Golf Club in London a few years ago which included my first – and so far only – hole in one. It was on Good Friday, so the clubhouse was closed, making it one of the most inexpensive aces in history!
Do you have a favourite course?
Anything by Faldo Design! But seriously, our project at Laguna Lang Co in Vietnam, which has just opened, is definitely a favourite. It's a great course anyway, but because I was involved with it from the start, in my capacity as Asia-Pacific director for the course design arm of Sir Nick's company, it's very special to me on a personal level.
