Bhullar takes Indonesia Open

Gaganjeet Bhullar shot an unblemished three-under-par 68 to win the Indonesia Open by three shots Sunday and take his first Asian Tour title of the year.

"I'm glad I stayed patient and showed a lot of confidence," said Bhullar

JAKARTA, December 1, 2013 (AFP) - The Indian opened with 10 straight pars but put on a strong back nine performance highlighted by three birdies to triumph at the US$750,000 event.

Malaysia's Nicholas Fung tied for second on 66 with Chapchai Nirat of Thailand, who shot two eagles Sunday at Damai Indah Golf. They ended on 271, three strokes behind the leader.

Bangladesh's Siddikur Rahman carded a 67 to finish fourth on 272, with Jyoti Randhawa (69) of India one shot further back.

Bhullar started slowly but picked up the pace when the field threatened to overtake him.

A birdie on 11 was the turning point in his round which led to two more birdies on holes 13 and 14.

Poor weather caused play to be suspended for over an hour but Bhullar came back with four pars to clinch the title.

"I gave myself a lot of opportunities in the first nine holes but I misjudged my yardages on a few holes," he said in comments supplied by the organisers.

"Apart from that, there was no difference in my strategy. Winning takes a lot of patience. I'm glad I stayed patient and showed a lot of confidence," said Bhullar, who took home the winner's prize purse of US$135,000.
