BLUES HALL OF FAME
Another short walk across to Main Street takes us to one of the newest attractions in Memphis, the Blues Hall of Fame, which opened in May 2015. The building may be new, but the Blues Foundation started the Hall of Fame concept in 1980, honouring those who have made a significant contribution to the development of the blues.
This is a must-see for blues fans, containing recordings, videos, images, and memorabilia relating to the giants who have been inducted. With extensive multimedia exhibits it’s a great way to explore the rich history of this distinctly American music genre. An extensive library is a great place to unwind, and we were lucky enough to catch a temporary exhibition of stunning photographs of musical legends taken by Blues Hall of Fame member Dick Waterman. Certainly worth a visit.
And in what seems like no time at all our time in Memphis was at an end and we began our journey south down the Mississippi. Our expectations of Memphis were high but were hugely exceeded, and we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend a visit and to return, hopefully sooner rather than later!
