HONG KONG, 15 Dec 2015, (HK Golfer News Wire) – Despite a heavy homework load from her primary school, Athena insists on spending an hour at the Whitehead driving range every weekday.
“My wife and I didn’t pressure her into practicing,” said Athena’s father Johnny, “In fact we are glad that she has become so fond of the game.”
In 2015, Athena took part in competitions held by the HKGA and LCSD, and was often on the podium in her age group. “I play better than Daddy!” said the cheerful Athena.
During the 2015 UBS Hong Kong Open, Athena spent most of the tournament at the 1st tee spectator box, watching world-class golfers tee off at the composite course at Fanling. She even knew how to pronounce the last name of runner-up Lucas Bjerregaard. “I was there when Bjerregaard and Rose teed off,” she said, “They hit the ball so far away. I wish I could do that.”
Like any loving parent, Johnny wants his daughter to grow up as a person through the game. “She is at a tender age,” said Johnny, “While I want her to enjoy playing, I also hope the game teaches her to cope with failure – that she must not take winning for granted.”
Athena will take part in the HKGA’s Schools Holiday Competition and Winter Junior Championship later this month.
