Jim Furyk walked away with the US$10 million FedEx Cup series bonus after edging out Luke Donald to win the season-ending Tour Championship.

The American went into the final day at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta with a one-stroke lead over Donald and Retief Goosen and despite testing heavy rain, survived two late bogeys to claim a third victory of the season for the first time in his career with a second consecutive level par 70.

Donald had briefly shared the lead early in the final round but his challenge was hit by two bogeys on the front nine. The Englishman heaped the pressure back on Furyk with three birdies on the back side only for the American to hold his nerve with superb sand save on the final green – to maintain his perfect nine out of nine record for the tournament – before claiming victory with a two-foot par putt.

“There was a lot riding on my round, a lot riding down the stretch in some terrible weather, and I was able to – although it didn't look pretty the last three – get the job done and win again, and this is very special,” said Furyk, who was actually disqualified from the first event of the play-off series after missing his pro-am tee-time. In addition to his series bonus, Furyk collected US$1.35 million for Tour Championship win.
