Hak is Back!

Local favourite Jason Hak will be taking part in the inaugural Clearwater Bay Open, the first PGA TOUR China series event to be held outside of the mainland.

Have you got any goals for the remainder of this year?

Obviously, I would love to win. It’s what a competitor and an athlete tries to do, but I need to get the job done on my side and see how it goes. I’m not trying to force anything, but I’ll definitely try to do my best on every round and every shot.

What are your plans for 2017?

PGA TOUR China will be definitely one of the top choices I’ll have. Obviously I would love to get into Web.com, too, but we still don’t know, so that’s still one of the things I haven’t decided yet.

Do you keep in contact with people within the HKGA?

Yes, of course. We travelled a lot during my junior amateur career. We still have a lot of friends, my captain, the coach Brad, Bob, my teammates – Steven, Terence, Shinichi, all those guys, we all keep in touch. We actually haven’t seen each other a lot. I do miss them. I miss the HKGA. They’ve done a lot for Hong Kong golf, so looking forward to seeing them, too.

What can Hong Kong golf fans do to help you win the Clearwater Bay Open?

Well, they really can’t do much, but I just hope they will enjoy coming out and watching us play. I’m hoping to help them to love the game more.

What did you think of Tiffany Chan playing in the Olympics and doing well, finishing 37th?

I’ve seen Tiffany over in the US. We’ve played some golf together. She went to USC [University of Southern California]. She’s a great player, so it was no surprise she made the Olympic team. It was a great thing for Hong Kong golf. I actually talked to her after she came back. She is enjoying her life and playing some good golf. I’m really happy for her.

Do you ever think yourself, if you keep progressing well in the pro ranks, there’s a good chance of you representing Hong Kong at Tokyo 2020?

It’s definitely one of my dreams is representing Hong Kong, China, to play in the Olympics. It would be my honour and it would be an unforgettable memory. It’s still a long way away, so I’ve got to take it step by step, but it’s definitely one of my biggest goals.

What do you think Hong Kong golfers need to do to improve and have a chance of competing as Tour professionals?

Obviously the HKGA has done a lot for the juniors and the amateurs, bringing the team around the world to play competitively, which has helped a lot. I think there’s many more junior, young players that have been getting better and developing well. It’s just one of those things that you can’t get in a hurry. Sometimes you just have to let it come, but we are all trying to achieve a goal, so hopefully one day we will be right there and the people of Hong Kong would love to see that.

Could you list the equipment you play with?

All my clubs are Titleist. I have a Titleist 917 D3 driver, 9½ degree. I have a Titleist three-wood, a 915H Hybrid. I use 917 irons – blades up to the six-iron and CB for the long irons. I have Vokey wedges – 46 degree, 53 degree and a 60 degree - and a Scotty Cameron putter. I use Pro V1x balls, Titleist glove and Footjoy shoes.
