China's Huang Yongle took a giant leap towards his maiden Masters Golf Fashion Hong Kong Open Amateur Championship title with a sensational 62 at Discovery Bay Golf Club Thursday.
Eighteen-year-old Huang, who is based at the mainland's first modern-day course – the Chung Shan Hot Spring Club in Guangdong – fired a blistering eight birdies and an eagle in 10-under-par effort to open up an 11-shot lead at the top of the leader board – and all but guarantee his spot in December's UBS Hong Kong Open field.
Huang lies on a two-day total of 134 with today's final round to play. Hong Kong's Steven Lam and Winston Wu lie in a share of second place alongside Charles Davies of Singapore on 145.
"I couldn't be happier with the round," said the long-hitting Huang, who is mentored by China's number one professional Liang Wen-chong. "My dream is to play in the Hong Kong Open with Liang in the field, so my goal in the final round is to carry on playing well and take each shot at a time."
The only slight downside to Huang's day was the fact that his brilliant round could not be deemed as a new course record because the preferred lies ruling was in place.
