Local golfing golden girl Tiffany Chan lived up to her billing as pre-tournament favourite by carding a two-under 70 to take a share of the first-round lead at the Hong Kong Ladies Open Amateur Championship at Fanling on Wednesday.

Tiffany Shares First-Round Lead at HK Ladies Open

HONG KONG, 6 Jan 2016, (HK Golfer News Wire) - The 22-year-old from Tuen Mun, who is ranked 17th in the World Amateur Golf Ranking after enjoying a stellar first semester representing the University of Southern California, the number one college team in the United States, got off to a untidy start by making the turn in one-over after three early bogeys.

But a flawless display down the New Course’s closing stretch, where she made three birdies in the space of five holes, put the former Diocesan Girls School student atop a crowded leader board alongside Princess Mary Superal of the Philippines.

Hong Kong’s Mimi Ho and Superal’s compatriot Pauline Del Rosario are tied together in third place after matching 71s, with Michelle Cheung a shot further back in solo fifth.

“I made a few mistakes early but overall I’m pretty satisfied,” said Chan, who despite dominating the local golfing scene in recent times has yet to claim the Ladies Open title. “The course played a bit differently than I was expecting, and I didn’t putt as well as I would have liked, but I’m in a good position.

“I’m hoping and expecting to play better tomorrow.”

The 54-hole event finishes on Friday.
