Indian Open shifts to Bangalore after 48 years

India's national golf open will be shifted to Bangalore this season for the first time in its 48-year history, organisers said on Tuesday.

The Hero Indian Open was held in New Delhi in 2011NEW DELHI, Aug 21, 2012 (AFP) - The US$1.25 million Hero Indian Open will be played from October 18 to 21 at Karnataka Golf Association in Bangalore, a thriving IT hub.

"The Indian Open has been the pride of Indian golf for 48 years on the trot," Manjit Singh, president of the Indian Golf Union (IGU), said in an Asian Tour press release.

"For the first time, the event will be staged in Bangalore reinforcing the commitment of IGU to promote golf across India."

The tournament, which started in 1964, has only previously been held in New Delhi and Kolkata.
