HONG KONG, 20 February, 2014, (HK Golfer News Wire) - Kitty Tam Yik-ching is all but certain to win her maiden Hong Kong Ladies Close Amateur Championship title after going on a birdie blitz at Discovery Bay Golf Club in Thursday’s penultimate round.
Seventeen-year-old Tam, who finished second in the event last year, fired a one-under-par 70 on day two to extend her lead to a gargantuan 13 shots over her nearest challenger, Tiana Gwenn Lau. Cheria Heng Cheuk-sze lies a further shot adrift in third.
Lau’s round included five birdies, four of which came on the closing nine, which helped her to recover from an uncharacteristic double bogey at the ninth hole.
