Local amateur Tiffany Chan claimed the Hong Kong Ladies Open following a wet but wonderful week at Fanling

Receiving the silverware from Commissioner for Sports TK Yeung

As an amateur, Chan wasn't able to take the winner's share of the US$150,000 prize purse, which went to Muangkhumsakul, but the ranking points she earned put her on course for a berth in Rio, lifting her into 58th place on the Olympic rankings, with the top-60 earning their places in the elite field. If she can maintain or better that position by July 11, when the qualification period ends, Chan will be assured of  teeing it up at the Gil Hanse-designed course in Barra da Tijuca, on the outskirts of Rio.

"The achievements of Tiffany and others are pushing golf to the forefront of sports in Hong Kong," said National Coach Brad Schadewitz. "Her win at the Hong Kong Ladies Open is going to have a big impact on developing the game and if she can hold on and make it to Rio ... that will be a truly great moment in the history of local golf."

She didn't win but Thailand's Kanphanitnan Muangkhumsakul received the victor's share of the US$150,000 prize purse
