Yarra Yarra Golf Club

A look at the membership opportunities at one of Australia’s most revered and historic courses.

A Unique Golfing Opportunity Awaits You

Melbourne’s famous 'Sandbelt' golf courses are renowned and revered throughout the golfing world for their blend of sandy soil, moderate climate, and unique international course designs.

Located in the heart of the famous Melbourne 'Sandbelt', and less than 20km from the Melbourne CBD, the Yarra Yarra Golf Club has existed and challenged the amateur and some of the world’s best professional golfers for more than one hundred years.

From its earliest days in 1898, the Yarra Yarra Golf Club has been a big part of Melbourne’s golfing history. The primary architect of this renowned Melbourne 'Sandbelt' golf course was Alex Russell who, in 1926, had formed a partnership with the famed Alister MacKenzie during his brief visit to Australia. Today, it remains substantially the same as the original layout and, like all great golf courses; it has stood the test of time and consistently rated in the top Australian courses since its opening.

It is also well documented in course architect Tom Doak’s publication "Confidential Guide" – a review of the architecture of the best courses on the planet, that the four par threes at Yarra Yarra are rated seventh (the only course in this category in the southern hemisphere). The par three 11th hole (described by Peter Thomson as a “national treasure”) is invariably in the experts’ collection of the best eighteen holes in Australia.

Many of the world’s great professional golfers have competed in tournaments hosted at Yarra Yarra; from the early years of Walter Hagen, “Babe” Didrickson and Joe Kirkwood, plus one of the greatest golfers of the 20th century, Gary Player, who won his first substantial professional purse at the Yarra Yarra Golf Club in the 1956 Ampol Tournament, to Australian legends such as Peter Thomson and then Johnny Miller, Greg Norman and Ian Baker-Finch. In more recent times Karrie Webb, Annika Sorensten, Jan Stephenson, Rachel Hetherington, and local golfing stars of today that include Robert Allenby and Stuart Appleby, both of whom launched their professional careers from their membership as amateurs at the Club, have graced the fairways of Yarra Yarra.
