Tiger Woods
Nike One Platinum Ball
2005
Arguably the most famous televised shot in Masters history, Tiger Woods’ miraculous chip on the par-3 16th became a ready-made commercial for Nike.
After pulling tee shot left and long, Woods was faced with a testy chip that required him to aim 20 feet to the left of the pin so the ball could take advantage of the green’s slope and funnel right. He played his three-piece, soft-covered Nike One Platinum ball back in his stance, put tonnes of spin on his shot so it checked up into the hill and watched, along with millions of others, as it tumbled slowly toward the cup. In all, one of golf’s most famous shots took 17 seconds and one final achingly long dramatic roll-to fall in the cup.
What’s forgotten, however, is that Woods went on to bogey the next two holes, which landed him in a play-off with his playing partner Chris DiMarco. Woods birdied the first play-off hole (18) to win – which as everyone is doubtless aware, the last time he’s captured the Green Jacket.
