Top-10 One Major Wonders

Mak Lok-lin reflects on the year which saw three of the four majors seized by relative unknowns and the men from the past who failed to build on claiming one of golf's big four

Graeme McDowell, who would have thought it? Another shock winner of a major, although it could have been a lot worse, with Frenchman Gregory Havret waiting for a slip up to land the US Open.

Compare him to South Africa's Louis Oosthuizen, runaway winner of the Open Championship. Trouble pronouncing his name?....don’t worry, you probably won’t have to say it again.

At least US PGA Championship winner Martin Kaymer looks like the real deal, but who knows? Let’s hope McDowell goes on to greater things, unlike Lucas Glover. It would be tempting to call Glover’s lack of success since winning his only major at Bethpage Black in 2009 a slump, but sadly it is just a return to his usual form.
