BEIJING, October 11, 2013 (AFP) - The Chinese star joined compatriot Zhang Xinjun and New Zealander Gareth Paddison on six-under overall following the second day of the $1 million OneAsia event.
Major winners Charl Schwartzel and Darren Clarke remained within touching distance of the leaders. Northern Ireland's Clarke, who finished on par on the opening day, finished Friday at four under.
South African Schwartzel finished the day on par and one-under in the tournament, which is being held at the Nanshan International Golf Club's Montgomerie course in the eastern province of Shandong.
Liang started with an eagle and added 10 birdies during a Nanshan masterclass that required just 22 putts.
"I was putting very well, but my driving was also really good today," said Liang, according to a report released by the organisers.
"I will try my best this weekend, but there are still two days left and anything can happen," added the 2011 Order of Merit champion.
Liang won last year's tournament in gripping style, playing the 18th with South Korea's Y.E. Yang five times before coming out on top.
