Not the green hat!

Know your Chinese culturla differences: your green Masters hat belongs in Augusta! Our local reporter Mak Lok Lin explains why.

Friendly advice for anyone visiting Hong Kong or China to play golf, or even just walk in public: be careful of your hat choice! A green hat is an absolute no-no.

The Chinese for "wearing a green hat" (戴绿帽子 or dài lǜ mào zǐ) is a symbol that your significant other is "playing away" as the phrase sounds similar to the word for "cuckold". No self-respecting male would wear a green hat in China.

Armed with this priceless advice, you can now join caddies, HK Golfer insiders and opponents in sniggering when seeing some unfortunate hacker on the links wearing this local badge of shame.

If he says he has no trouble getting away to play golf, now you know why!
