HONG KONG, August 16, 2013 (HK Golfer News Wire) - Lam, 16, was consistently personified during the rain swept final round, carding two birdies and just one bogey in his one-under 69, which enabled him to become the first local boys’ winner since Steven Lam in 2009.
Hsieh Ting-wei of Chinese Taipei finished in a tie for second with Hong Kong’s Leon D’Souza on a two-day score of 151.
"I just tried to treat it like any other round, to not put any pressure on myself," said Lam, a student at International Christian School. “I relied on my short game quite a bit and made a few nice putts. I was rolling. It feels great.”
In the overall girls’ division, Thailand’s Chayanit Wangmahaporn cruised to a seven-shot win after adding a 73 to her first round 76. Hong Kong’s Vivian Li placed second after closing with a 75.
The tournament coincided with the Hong Kong Golf Association Chief Executive Iain Valentine’s last day in the role before retirement. Tom Phillips, the former CEO of the Faldo Series, has been selected as his successor.
