HONG KONG, 31 May, 2013 (HK Golfer News Wire) – Commenting on the announcement, HKGA President Mr Peter Aherne said, “We are extremely grateful for Iain Valentine’s extensive contribution during his tenure as Chief Executive of HKGA. Iain has overseen a number of changes, particularly the expansion of HKGA handicapping and, together with National Coach Brad Schadewitz, the development of the Elite and Junior programmes, the fruits of which are now evident with a number of our young golfers being offered golf scholarships at leading universities in the United States. Iain has also been instrumental in ensuring the HKGA’s relationships with government, golf’s governing bodies and international associations have been maintained at the highest level.”
Aherne continued: “Also over the same period the Hong Kong Open has become a co-sanctioned event with the Asian and European Tours, leading to a commensurate increase in its profile and popularity with the Hong Kong public, as the event continues to expand and attract leading world-class players to participate.”
He will be succeeded as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) by Tom Phillips, who will start his tenure with the HKGA on 19 August, 2013.
Hong Kong resident Phillips, 39, is currently CEO of the Faldo Series, the global golf development programme established by Sir Nick Faldo.
