Weather Claims Pro HK Event

The appalling weather of late has taken its toll on le coq sportif Golf Championship, which has been cancelled.

Scott Barr, winner of last year’s le coq sportif Golf Championship

The HK$1 million professional event, which was due to be played on 24-25 June over the North Course at the Jockey Club Kau Sai Chau Public Golf Course, was won last year by Australia’s Scott Barr, an Asian Tour regular. But the tournament’s organizer, Hong Kong Descente Trading Limited, was forced to take drastic measures after almost constant downpours affected the condition of the Gary Player-designed layout.

"The dates were fixed with consideration to the golfers’ schedules in the region as well as other partners of the championship, including the courses, sponsors, co-organizers and the media," said Descente’s President Kenneth Lee in a prepared statement. "We are sad to inform everyone that this year’s le coq sportif Golf Championship will not be held. Despite this, we are looking forward to gathering even better resources to host an even better event in the near future."
