Byron's Big Day

Year 10 student claims Spring Men's title

Junior golfer Byron Tan recorded 31 points to win the gross division – and deny veteran Doug Williams a third consecutive title – at the Spring Men's Stableford tournament held last month.

Tan, a year 10 student at International College Hong Kong, put in a gutsy performance over the tricky Diamond/Jade Course at Discovery Bay Golf Club to hold on and pip Williams, a member at the Hong Kong Golf Club and a former Hong Kong Close Amateur champion, by a single point. Tan finished two points ahead of third-placed Tiku Patidar and Luis Escamilla.

Escamilla had the final word in the nett division, however. His 44-point haul proved enough for a one-point margin of victory over Kwong Foo-man in second place.
